Non-Formal Learning in Practice – Our Projects, Methods, and Materials

Non-formal learning is more than just a method—it is an effective approach that encourages people to participate, reflect, and learn through real-life experiences.

This platform brings together our many years of work in the field of non-formal learning. Through various projects—with different target groups and formats—we have developed practical materials, tools, and concepts.

Here’s what you’ll find:

  • Insights into Completed and Ongoing Projects
  • proven methods and teaching approaches
  • freely available materials, manuals, and guides.

All of the content comes from real projects that demonstrate that learning can be free, self-directed, relevant to everyday life, and fun.

Use our findings—as inspiration, a foundation, or a tool for your practice, your own learning, or your advocacy!

About Us

The association “Gemeinsam leben und lernen in Europa e. V.,” based in Passau, has been working since 2008 to promote solidarity and cooperation in the region and beyond. The association’s goal is to enable people to actively participate in social life, regardless of their background, age, or life circumstances.
The organization focuses on volunteering, integration, inclusion, and education. It initiates and supports a wide range of projects that promote exchange between generations and cultures, break down prejudices, and strengthen social engagement. Of particular note is its work with young people, people with immigrant or refugee backgrounds, and people with disabilities.

The offerings include, among other things:

  • Language Mentoring Programs for Children and Adults
  • Intercultural cooking and dance projects
  • Digital Education for Seniors
  • Workshops Against Racism and Discrimination
  • intergenerational initiatives such as “Cook with Me” or “Cell Phone Tutoring”

The organization has strong regional roots but also collaborates with partner organizations throughout Europe. It has received numerous awards for its commitment, including the Bavarian Innovation Award for Volunteer Work and the European Citizens‘ Prize.
