Among us – Combating racism and discrimination among migrants and refugees

Project description

Among us – Combating racism and discrimination among migrants and refugees

Project Number: 2023-1-DE02-KA210-ADU-000151021
Funding Program: Erasmus+, Small-scale Strategic Partnerships in Adult Education
Duration: 01.09.2023 – 31.08.2025

As part of this project, the partners examined the situation of migrants and refugees in their local communities and aimed to identify existing prejudices, biases, stereotypes, ethnocentrism, discriminatory behaviors and mindsets, as well as hostile attitudes and stigmatization toward other migrant and refugee groups.

We also learnt about their values, ideas, and visions for building a peaceful society based on tolerance, integration, understanding, and solidarity among diverse groups.

Based on our findings, we developed strategies to counter racism among migrants and refugees, such as:

  • Identifying shared values and perspectives to foster a common vision for peaceful coexistence
  • Bridging intercultural divides through the creation of networks between different migrant and refugee communities
  • Promoting civic engagement and participation among migrants and refugees by organizing joint activities and events (e.g., on the “International Day of Living Together in Peace” on May 16)
  • Training educators and volunteers involved in integration work, offering them recommendations for addressing racist and discriminatory behavior within migrant and refugee groups

The research findings, the solutions developed, and our recommendations were documented in the following online e-book and workshop curriculum intended for distribution throughout Europe.
